Proposition 13 could raise school tax exemption

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Early voting is now over for the Texas constitutional amendment election, with election day inching closer.

17 propositions appear on the ballot, including Proposition 13, also known as Senate Joint Resolution 2. If passed, it would raise the school tax exemption for homeowners.

Under the proposal, Texas homeowners could reduce their home’s taxable value by $140,000. The current exemption is $100,000.

Additional laws would make the state pay school districts for revenue they would lose if the proposition passes.
