COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A federally funded assistance program is accepting applications, and despite uncertainty of federal funding, state officials are still asking anyone who needs the help to apply.
The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) helps Coloradans with their utility bills, issuing a one-time payment to those who need it.
Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) said they expect more people will need the help this year.
“Prices for food, rent, they have only continued to rise this year,” CSU community relations supervisor April Speake said.
“And so, I expect that more families are going to be in a position where they’re struggling.”
Despite what’s expected to be an increased demand, Speake said they are ready to fit the need.
