LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Police arrested a man in relation to a Saturday night shooting in Valley Station.

The shooting happened just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Louisville Metro Police say they were called out to the 5400 block of Valley Station Road on reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot.

He was taken to the hospital with injuries police believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police detained a person of interest at the scene and later charged 29-year-old Matthew Tarrance with first-degree assault.

According to court documents, Tarrance and the victim got into a verbal altercation when Tarrance shot the victim. Tarrance then drove down the street and called the police, claiming he shot someone in self-defense.
