PARRISH, Fla. (WWSB) - Suncoast food pantries are continuing to serve a surge in families as concerns over the government shutdown and SNAP benefits linger.

Parrish United Methodist Church has served hundreds of cars a month for its drive-through distribution.

From fresh fruit and meat to sweet treats and cleaning supplies, Parrish United Methodist Church is making sure Manatee County families are well taken care of.

The church’s drive-through distribution used to serve roughly 25 families; they’re now seeing 5-10 times that on a bi-monthly basis, with lines forming the day before the distribution even begins.

“Our first cars are always here Friday night around 6:00 pm, so that is a full 12 hours to 18 hours before we even start because the need always is that bad,” Food Ministry Coord
