Drivers have been alerted to a MOT test change that may soon be made mandatory. The DVSA has been trialling a new requirement where testers take a photograph of a vehicle going through its MOT and upload the images to the digital MOT Testing Service.
The scheme aims to combat 'ghost MOTs', where certificates are issued without a car actually undergoing the annual test. An initial trial saw 170 MOT testers at 62 garages photograph cars being tested.
A total of 13,000 photographs were captured and uploaded. Following the success of this initial phase, it has progressed to a second stage, with the number of garages expanding nearly fourfold, with 244 garages to now take part.
