The most important thing Michigan State needed on Saturday was a win and that was the one thing that still eluded the Spartans in Big Ten play.

MSU took its sixth straight loss in the conference with a 23-20 defeat in overtime to Minnesota , putting them on the verge of missing a bowl game for the fourth straight year.

While the results continue to be negative for the Spartans, they did show signs of improvement as they remained competitive in a season where a lot of games haven’t been.

Their overall Pro Football Focus grade of 78.9 was the team’s highest since their last win against FCS Youngstown State in Week 3.

Perhaps the most significant indicator of their improved efficiency was the play at quarterback as the Spartans moved from Aidan Chiles to redshirt freshman Alessio Milivo
