Bhubaneswar: A shopkeeper was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing a bull that had eaten a packet of bread from his grocery shop in the Malipada area under Hirakud police station in Sambalpur district.

The accused, Shiva Mohanty (55), is a resident of Old Market in Hirakud.

According to police, the incident occurred around 1.45 pm when the bull reportedly consumed a bread packet worth approximately Rs 20 from Mohanty’s shop. Enraged, Mohanty allegedly attacked the animal with a knife, leaving it critically injured.

Following this, local resident Bikash Chandra Behera filed a complaint at the Hirakud police station.

Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case (No. 325 BNS/11 (A)) under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and arrested Mohanty.
