COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Mike Shula tenure at South Carolina is over after head coach Shane Beamer fired the longtime NFL assistant Sunday, one day after a 30-14 loss at Ole Miss where the Gamecock offense continued to struggle.
Prior to the Cheez-It Bowl in Orlando, Shula was promoted from analyst to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach after Dowell Loggains left to become the head coach at Appalachian State.
Through nine games in 2025, Carolina is at or near the bottom in almost every offensive category. The Gamecocks are last in the SEC in points scored at 19.7 per game and last in total offense at 294.1 yards per game.
Shula is the first coordinator to be let go by Shane Beamer in his 5 years leading the program. He is a former Alabama quarterback who returned to his alma mater
