For more than a century, Navarre Elementary School has stood as a cornerstone of East Toledo — a place where generations of families have learned, worked, and played under the same roof.
In the two years Principal Ward Barnett has been at the school, he said he’s learned about and appreciates Navarre’s rich history.
“This school is special. There is pride in the ’05,” he said in reference to the neighborhood’s 43605 ZIP code. “The history here is remarkable. You have teachers who have spent the majority of their careers here, over 20-plus years. You do not get that type of longevity at all schools. Our teachers are dedicated. You will never have another Navarre.”
Mr. Barnett said the school is getting ready to celebrate its 105th anniversary Thursday. The Navarre Family Reunion will be
