Two men died in flooded basements in Brooklyn and Manhattan following a sudden downpour on Oct. 30, according to The City.
In East Flatbush, Aaron Akaberi, 39, drowned while trying to rescue his dog from a basement at the intersection of Rutland Road and Kingston Avenue, where he had been living in a tent and acting as caretaker, ABC 7 Eyewitness News reported.
The building, according to the outlet, was left without power, heat or water, and residents were forced to sit in the dark.
In Washington Heights, 43-year-old Juan Carlos Montoya Hernández was electrocuted while attempting to pump water from a flooded boiler room located at 701 W 175th St., according to PIX 11.
He was remembered fondly as a kind and hardworking father of five neighbors told The City.
