Mira Mohan has been weightlifting for two years. She wanted to lift weights as a young teenager, but it was not until she saw Mirabai Chanu win an Olympic medal for India that weightlifting became an option.
"I was like, 'Whoa, what is she doing? I want to do that,'" the 18-year-old says.
After convincing her father it was safe, Mira found a weightlifting gym and soon discovered her niche.
She is currently doing her Higher School Certificate (HSC) and training five times a week.
She recently became NSW Champion in her weight class, and secured ATAR points — that will count towards her HSC result — in doing so.
"I go to school, come to the gym, go home and study. It gives me a break after school to come in and do what I love before I go back home and start doing work again," she says.
