A Baton Rouge Police car was obliterated after an 18-wheeler crashed into it on an interstate shoulder Saturday morning; police say the officer inside the vehicle escaped with minor injuries.
According to a release from the Baton Rouge Police Department, the officer had pulled the marked patrol car onto the shoulder of I-12 near Millerville Road. At 6:52 a.m., police say, an 18-wheeler struck the cruiser from behind, leaving the rear half crushed.
Investigators believe the driver of the semi truck may have fallen asleep at the wheel before the collision.
The officer was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.
There was no immediate information on the condition of the truck driver.
