KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - As fans geared up for the Tennessee vs. Oklahoma game on Saturday, nearly 700,000 Tennesseans lost SNAP benefits.

Ray Burton has organized Hard Knox Tailgating for ten years. This year, he partnered with Second Harvest of East Tennessee to collect donations for people who lost SNAP benefits during the government shutdown.

“It’s a good cause,” said Burton. “Times are tight; everybody needs help, and we’d like to do our part.”

In a post on Facebook, Burton asked fans to bring donations if they planned to attend the tailgate:

Fans delivered, and the tailgate collected several boxes of food to donate to Second Harvest.
