URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- As it gets colder, fire departments across Central Illinois are reminding people about the importance of carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
The Urbana Fire Department said carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and extremely dangerous. That's why prevention is key.
Furnaces, stoves and chimneys are common causes of CO leaks and making sure they're properly maintained is crucial, according to the fire department.
They said families should also have a household plan in place for when smoke and carbon monoxide alarms go off.
