100 firefighters respond to large 'glass leak' in Macon Co.

MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) -- Every fire department in Macon County responded to the Fuyao glass plant Sunday morning for a "glass leak."

The Mt. Zion Fire Protection District said they responded to the scene around 5:15 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they learned that the furnace used to make the glass had a large leak in the basement. The last time there was a leak of this scale was in 2002, the fire protection district said.

The plant workers repaired the leak, while the responding firefighters worked to protect the building and to cool the molten glass.

In total, an estimated 100 firefighters responded to the scene. Every fire department in Macon County responded, along with several fire departments outside of the county. One firefighter was brought to the hospital with minor injuri
