BRATTLEBORO — The Leaf Brigade had a successful mission.
Municipal budget constraints prompted the volunteer leaf collection organized by two Select Board members.
"It was excellent," Board Vice Chairman Oscar Heller said. "We had, if anything, a couple more volunteers than signed up officially, which was awesome."
Heller, who organized Saturday's collection with board member Amanda Ellis-Thurber, counted about 20 volunteers. About 40 households signed up to have their leaves picked up.
Heller estimated the process took about an hour and a half.
"My worry going in was that we would find that we couldn't make a dent," he said. Instead, they were able to "cruise through it."
