KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF)-- Police in Missouri issued a "Community Safety Alert" on Saturday after "suspicious" bags of candy-like substances were found at a Lee's Summit park.

According to a Facebook post by the Lee's Summit Police Department on Saturday, officers were called to a park where they reportedly found small bags of "bright-colored substances" resembling candies.

The substances may have contained drugs, including fentanyl, police said.

LPD added that drugs, in general, are often designed to appeal to children and teens, and small amounts can lead to serious injury or death.

The police department encourages the public to keep the community safe by reporting suspicious items and talking to children and teens about the dangers of unknown substances.
