BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is on the scene of a shooting involving one of their deputies that occurred in Brandon on Sunday.

According to the sheriff's office, at 2:04 p.m., deputies responded to a call regarding a domestic violence incident in progress.

Deputies said the caller advised them that the suspect was armed with a knife and choking their 7-year-old brother.

At the scene, deputies reported they found the suspect barricaded in a back bedroom. They said a child could be heard screaming for help, which prompted the deputies to kick down the door.

According to the sheriff's office, the deputies encountered the suspect, who was holding a knife and refusing to let go of the child.
