WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A busy Sunday morning at the State Street Salvation Army in Watertown, bustling from the organization’s annual pancake breakfast.

“We opened the doors at 8, tables were full already,” said Salvation Army Captain Josh Morales. He said they had a steady stream of visitors all morning keeping tables full. Meals were $8 for adults, $3.50 for kids.

Morales says affordability was key Sunday. Why?

SNAP benefits have run dry, at least for now, and he wanted to make this breakfast affordable for those that used the SNAP program.

Morales says within the last week he’d seen 20-plus people visit the Salvation Army’s food pantry, preparing for SNAP’s end. That’s almost half the amount of people that visit the pantry within a month.
