As the Blue Jays took Toronto — and Canada — to the World Series for the first time since 1993, many Toronto entities took part in the hype by placing friendly wagers against their Los Angeles counterparts. From the mayors to the zoos, to even Doug Ford and Californian Gov. Gavin Newsom, all kinds of bets were placed over what the other would do if their team lost.
Now that the World Series has come to an end, with a crushing 11th inning loss for the Blue Jays during Game 7 , Toronto is settling its dues.
The Toronto Zoo had a wager going with the Los Angeles Zoo that the losing city would change its logo: a Blue Jays win would mean L.A. add a blue jay to its logo, and a Dodgers win would mean the Toronto Zoo add a condor, a large bird commonly seen in California.
