The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office on Sunday identified a 12-year-old boy and two adults who were killed in a crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway in the early- morning hours.

According to authorities, at approximately 1:52 a.m., multiple fatalities were reported after a crash occurred near the expressway’s split with Interstate 57. The three victims were riding in one vehicle, but caused the crash remained unclear.

The victims were identified as Joseph Chacon, 12, Gloria Arias, 34, and Gregory Chacon, 52, according to the medical examiner's office.

As a result of the collision, traffic was diverted off the highway at 95 th Street until just before 7:30 a.m. when lanes were reopened following an investigation.
