Homestead is the preseason No. 1 team in the state in the IBCA girls basketball poll, which was released Sunday. The Spartans return most of their production from a team that went 24-3 last season and reached the regional championship. Homestead received 11 first-place votes, while Lawrence Central (22-2) drew seven top votes and is ranked second and defending Class 4A runner-up Warsaw (26-2) got two first-place votes and opens the season at No. 3. No. 4 Pike (20-7) and No. 5 HSE (27-1) drew one top vote each.

Norwell (23-6), which won the Class 3A state title last year and has been promoted to Class 4A, is ranked seventh in the all-class poll. Bellmont (21-3), Columbia City (24-5), Northrop (16-8) and Snider (13-12) each drew votes.
