US President Trump has warned that the United States could deploy troops or launch air strikes in Nigeria in response to what he described as the widespread killing of Christians in the country.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One as he returned to Washington after a weekend in Florida, Trump said that he had instructed the Pentagon (which he referred to as the “Department of War") to prepare for possible military action. When asked whether this meant ground troops or air strikes, he replied: “Could be. I mean, other things. I envisage a lot of things. They’re killing record numbers of Christians in Nigeria… They are killing the Christians and killing them in very large numbers. We are not going to allow that to happen."
