ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — An 18-year-old was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after Port St. Lucie police said he was driving the wrong way and almost collided head-on with one of their sergeants.
According to the police department, just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, 18-year-old Jake Abbott was driving in the wrong lane of traffic on Okeechobee Road near mile marker 123/124.
Police reported that Abbott nearly collided head-on with a PSLPD sergeant who was driving home from his shift.
PSLPD said the sergeant was able to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid being hit. He then radioed dispatch with his location and the make and model of Abbott’s vehicle while Abbott allegedly fled the scene.
Police said that because Abbott continued to drive the wrong way, other drivers
