WILLISTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Seventeen people completed over 100 miles at the Rutfest ultramarathon, which ended Monday evening after 36 hours of running.

The event concluded at 6 p.m. after starting at 6 a.m. Saturday. Event organizers said over 250 runners participated, more than in previous years.

Some runners ran throughout the night, with many completing 50 or 100 miles for their first time ever.

“Definitely feels like a personal accomplishment it’s a cool thing. I’m grateful for the support it’s such a good place to do it, it’s so laid back so much good food and like everyone’s so positive such a good place to go for it,” said Will Biediger of Waterbury.

Over $12,000 was raised for the Vermont Huts Association and the Catamount Family Outdoor Center.
