New Delhi: Harmanpreet Kaur etched her name in history after inspiring India to their maiden Women’s ODI World Cup triumph on Sunday. Harmanpreet-led India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final to win the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup title, marking an end to a long agonising wait for the elusive trophy. India joined Australia, England and New Zealand in becoming only the fourth team to win the title .
Harmanpreet, who became the first Indian women’s team captain to win the title, joined the legendary Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni in an elite list of skippers to have won the ODI World Cup for India. Kapil Dev led the Indian men’s team to their maiden ODI World Cup title in 1983, an iconic victory that forever changed the face of Indian cricket, inspiring generations.
