South Side senior Molly Barry stepped up to the penalty line with only Garden City goalkeeper Marisa Patrissi standing between the Cyclones and the Nassau Class AA girls soccer title.

When the whistle blew, Barry delivered a perfect strike to the right side of the net, sending the ball into the back of the goal. The South Side fans in the bleachers at Farmingdale State erupted as the Cyclones won, 4-3, on penalty kicks, earning the championship and completing a season of redemption after last year’s loss to top-seeded Garden City.

“I think in the most important moments in the game, sometimes you just don’t think,” Barry said. “You know that the game-winning opportunity is at your feet, but you can’t think of it like that.”
