Oklahoma lawmakers say the ongoing federal government shutdown is taking a growing toll, with thousands of state employees facing furloughs and local food banks struggling to meet rising demand.
On this week’s Your Vote Counts, News 9 political analyst Scott Mitchell spoke with Sen. Paul Rosino, R-Oklahoma City, and former Rep. Jason Dunnington, D-Oklahoma City, about how the shutdown is affecting Oklahomans as it nears a record length.
“If it makes it into Tuesday of this week, it'll be the longest government shutdown that we've had,” Dunnington said. “elected officials, regardless of party, should have been meeting this entire time, should have been hashing out what the plan is so that we can stop the shutdown.”
