Police have arrested Sangey Choyu (32) of Lipakphu village in Kalaktang, West Kameng district, for allegedly posing as an Indian Army soldier under the fake identity of Naik Lobsang Wangdi Kee from the 9 Assam Regiment.

According to reports, using this false identity, Choyu married two women—one from Pamghar in Lumla sub-division and another from Famla in Tawang—and even fathered a child with one of them.

One of his wives filed an FIR, prompting a joint investigation by Tawang Police and Military Intelligence, which confirmed that no soldier by that name existed in Army records.

Choyu was arrested on October 30, 2025.
