TORONTO — Los Angeles Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts rarely shows concern. He is the firm and steady leader of the greatest show on baseball earth, paid handsomely to be the stoic public face of high-priced private chaos. But as his Dodgers’ dreams of becoming MLB’s first repeat champions in a quarter-century were slipping away in the ninth inning of Game 7 of the World Series on Saturday night, Roberts’s face finally told the truth.

He tried to yell when infielder Miguel Rojas hit the first game-tying home run in the ninth inning or later in World Series history to save them, but he couldn’t. So he spit out his dip and yelled louder.
