LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - For the second year, the Día De Los Muertos festival has been held in Lake Charles as a way to honor traditional holiday “Day of the Dead.”
The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday to honor and celebrate the lives of deceased loved ones by welcoming their spirits back to the living world. The holiday started 3,000 years ago as a ritual to honor the dead in Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica.
“Well we have so many wonderful Hispanic, Latino, and Mexican people in our community that we celebrate everything in Louisiana, Southwest Louisiana in particular, and with us being the very beginning of Louisiana we need to celebrate this occasion in a grand style,” said event coordinator Edwina Medearis.
