SANTA FE, N.M. —
In mid-October, New Mexico State Auditor Joseph Maestas released a report examining the use of $20 million intended to improve the Children, Youth, and Families Department, revealing misalignment with legislative intentions.
The report, requested by lawmakers, also highlighted that the Health Care Authority transferred more than $17 million to CYFD last year. The auditor reported that $7 million of the transferred funds "did not align" with what lawmakers wanted the department to do.
The audit found that the money was used for shelter-related services, family resource center services, and behavioral health services, with no mention of Medicaid billing.
The auditor's office noted that both CYFD and HCA did not provide the requested documents, thereby limiting the report
