Millions of Australians could benefit from thousands of dollars out of a tax loophole that the Australian Taxation Office is desperately trying to close as it battles a landmark case.
Melbourne-based ABC radio presenter Ned Hall claimed $5878 in rental deductions for the occupancy costs of a second bedroom which he used as a home office when Victoria was forced into lockdown during the pandemic, The Herald Sun reported.
Mr Hall’s deduction was initially blocked by the ATO commissioner but was upheld by the Administrative Review Tribunal, formerly known as the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
He was also granted $1148 in deductions for car-related costs which the ATO had attempted to block.
