Another sitting week has kicked off with the Coalition in turmoil over climate policy. Sussan Ley has been urged to call a special Liberal party room meeting as forces aligned with leadership rival Angus Taylor argue the Liberals should follow the Nationals’ lead and dump their commitment to net zero emissions.
On the government side of the chamber, the environment minister, Murray Watt, says he still has no “preferred partner” out of the Coalition or the Greens to help pass his nature laws revamp. It comes as Anthony Albanese’s decision not to fly to Brazil for next week’s Cop climate summit – as Australia vies to host the next edition – is being questioned by diplomatic and business leaders .
