BEIJING: Pakistan’s first Chinese-made submarine is expected to become operational next year. The news was confirmed by Pakistan Navy Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf in an interview with Chinese media. Analysts say the move aims to strengthen Pakistan’s defence against India and expand its presence in the Middle East. The deal is reportedly worth around $5 billion.

Admiral Ashraf said the plan to deliver eight Hangor-class submarines to Pakistan by 2028 is progressing smoothly. He added that the new submarines will enhance Pakistan’s patrol capabilities in the northern Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.
