The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has clarified that northwest India is unlikely to experience an unusually harsh winter this month, with weather conditions expected to remain largely normal, similar to previous years.
The clarification follows reports suggesting that the region could witness an exceptionally freezing November, primary due to the expected development of La Nina conditions, which typically bring colder winters to North India.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, “Based on our analysis of the La Nina model, we do not anticipate a harsher winter. We expect a normal winter, similar to what we have seen in recent years.”
He added that the prevailing La Nina conditions are weak and are expected to remain so in the coming months.
