American semiconductor chip maker Nvidia has set a new record, with its market capitalisation surpassing $5 trillion (approximately Rs 453 lakh crore) for the first time.

Last week Tuesday, during trading, Nvidia’s market cap reached this milestone, just three months after crossing the $4 trillion mark. This makes Nvidia’s market cap higher than India’s GDP, which stands at $4.19 trillion.

Remarkably, only three countries in the world have a GDP greater than $5 trillion, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF): the United States at $30.61 trillion, China at $19.4 trillion, and Germany at $5.01 trillion.

Following Nvidia, Microsoft and Apple are the most valuable companies in the world, with market caps of $4.03 trillion and $4.02 trillion respectively
