A councillor has called on a telecoms company to pause its plans for dozens of new telegraph poles in part of . Openreach has informed the that it plans to install 40 poles in the Birchwood area for faster internet, and has already completed 15 in nearby Hartsholme.

A previous telecoms company pulled out of the area after stiff opposition from local residents. Openreach says it is working to deliver faster internet to thousands of homes, and sometimes needs to rely on poles rather than underground wires.

However Independent Councillor Biff Bean, who represents the area on the , says Openreach needs to talk with residents before more work goes ahead. “Openreach isn’t consulting with local people – they’re just putting up poles with stickers on them to say how you can complain,” he told th
