VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEVV) — A man was taken into custody by the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office following concerns about the welfare of a child in his care.
Authorities were dispatched to a mobile home on Des Plaines Drive on Saturday for a welfare check on a child believed to be with his father, Michael Schatz.
When deputies went inside, they say they smelled a foul odor and saw animal feces on the floor.
Deputies say they also noticed a large amount of trash in the home and bugs crawling on the floor and walls.
Upon further investigation, authorities say they discovered bugs in the refrigerator, dishwasher, and sink, as well as in the "pack and play," car seat, and baby bouncer.
Authorities say there was little food in the home and that bugs were moving around on the kitch
