The Paulsboro High School football team will compete in Saturday's sectional semifinal against Schalick, but the Red Raiders will be playing severely short-handed.
That's because 16 players have been deemed ineligible following last Saturday's on-field melee in an opening-round game against Woodbury that ended with 4:41 left in the fourth quarter.
Paulsboro won the game, 38-0. The Red Raiders will host Schalick in the South Jersey Group 1 semifinal on Saturday. Kickoff is set for noon.
The incident involved a late hit out of bounds on Paulsboro quarterback Malakhai McKenzie on his team’s sideline and quickly escalated onto the field.
The NJSIAA conducted an investigation into the incident and released a statement on Monday:
