(KRON) -- Crews are responding to a “significant” gas leak in downtown Los Altos Monday morning, according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department. Authorities are advising people to avoid the areas of downtown and evacuations are taking place.
The leak was reported by fire officials just after 10 a.m. and is located near First Street in Parking Plaza North. The fire department said an audible leak could be heard, “indicating a significant amount of gas escaping.”
“Please avoid the entire downtown Los Altos area between Foothill, Edith, and Main until further notice,” SCCFD wrote in an advisory.
PG&E crews are on scene responding to the leak.
Police and fire departments are executing evacuations in the area.
