NATIONWIDE — THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION INTENDS TO DEPLETE SNAP CONTINGENCY FUNDS so that it can provide partial benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which helps more than 42 million Americans afford food, CBS News and the Associated Press reported on Monday, Nov. 3.
The announcement comes on the first business day after two federal judges, in separate rulings, ordered the USDA to use the funds. The government had insisted that it wasn’t authorized to tap into them, but Justice John Connell of U.S. District Court in Rhode Island, and U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani in Massachusetts disagreed.
Judge Talwani presided over a case in which New York Attorney General Letitia James had sued the government on behalf of 25 states’ SNAP recipients. Justice McCon
