LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Nearly 400 schools across Michigan are being honored this week for being HEARTSafe schools.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday announced a record 399 schools will receive the designation during a ceremony on Friday — with 202 of those schools receiving the designation for the first time.
It’s all part of the MI HEARTSafe program, which launched in 2013, encouraging schools to “go above and beyond to prepare for cardiac emergencies.”
MDHHS partners with the Michigan Department of Education, American Heart Association, Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) and Michigan Alliance for Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death of the Young (MAP-SCDY) to make the program possible.
