Former Boston Red Sox outfielder Gabe Kapler has been promoted to general manager of the Miami Marlins.

The 50-year-old served as the Marlins assistant general manager during the 2024 season.

“We are excited to announce the following promotions within our Baseball Operations Leadership,” the Marlins official account posted on X.

Kapler played 12 MLB seasons from 1998 to 2010, including three-plus years with the Red Sox from 2003 to 2006.

The 1995 draft pick opened his playing career with the Detroit Tigers and spent 2000 to 2002 with the Texas Rangers, before being traded to the Colorado Rockies in July 2002.

Kapler was then purchased by Boston in June 2003 and recorded 13 home runs, 77 RBIs and a .270/.321/.391 slash line with the Red Sox across 312 games. Kapler was a member of the
