To say Chris Tanev sacrifices his body for the Maple Leafs every game only tells part of the story.

That he’s now on the injured reserve list a second time in two weeks after leaving Saturday’s game in Philadelphia on a stretcher underlined that commitment.

Defence partner Jake McCabe hovered nearby as his friend’s head and neck were strapped down as a precaution and medical personnel carefully wheeled him off the ice.

There were fears the accidental blindside collision with Flyer winger Matvei Michkov had caused another concussion the very day Tanev returned to the lineup. While the Leafs have not got into details, Tanev stayed overnight at a Philly hospital, flew home Sunday and has been talking to teammates Monday morning.

“That shook me pretty bad,” McCabe said of the incident.
