Growing frustration with President Donald Trump might hand Democrats the advantage in the 2026 midterm elections, the latest NBC News poll suggests.

The poll, released Sunday, found 43% of voters approved of how Trump is handling his job as president while another 55% said they disapproved. The poll also showed the president received low marks on his handling of several major issues that helped him win the 2024 election over former Vice President Kamala Harris.

The poll showed about two-thirds of voters believe the Trump administration has fallen short on the economy, the cost of living and looking out for the middle class. More than half of the voters also said the administration has fallen short on foreign policy.
