NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court criticised the high prices charged for snacks and other items in multiplex theatres across the country. Bottled water is being charged at Rs 100 and coffee at Rs 700. A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta opined that people would soon stop coming to theatres if the prices remain unchanged.
The Karnataka High Court had imposed conditions to stay the Karnataka government's decision to fix the ticket price in multiplex theatres at Rs 200. The court was considering a petition filed by the Multiplex Association of India challenging this. The matter will be considered again on November 25. The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the Karnataka High Court's order to maintain auditable records of every ticket sold in multiplexes.
