PROVO — A Provo woman is facing criminal charges after police say she had grocery bags on the hood of her car obstructing her view when she hit and killed a 2-year-old girl last week.

Nereyda Yessenia Miranda Montano, 28, was charged Monday in 4th District Court with manslaughter, a second-degree felony, and child abuse, a class B misdemeanor.

About 1:10 p.m. on Oct. 28, Miranda left her home in the Brough Trailer Court, 860 W. Columbia Lane, "and placed two grocery store bags full of trash on the hood of her car. The dumpster for the mobile home park where she lived was at the exit of the park and she intended to throw the trash away before continuing to the street," according to charging documents.

The bags were placed on the driver's side of the car
