It has become somewhat of a tradition in Montreal for politicians to do a walkabout in the city to greet commuters the morning after an election win.

Whether it was Valérie Plante thanking voters outside the Square-Victoria-OACI métro in 2017 when she made history as the first woman elevated to the mayor’s office, or Justin Trudeau posing for selfies with passengers at Jarry station in his riding in 2019 after being returned to the Prime Minister’s Office, the impromptu glad-handing is a sort of victory lap to mark a political triumph.
