ALEXANDRIA — The continent’s oldest competitive trophy will be staying in Glengarry County for a stint.

The Alexandria Curling Club hosted and claimed the Quebec Challenge Cup on Sunday, comfortably defeating the cupholder Ottawa RCMP Curling Club, on home ice.

Alexandria’s two entries for the scheduled 10-end games were skipped by Ian Fraser (the club’s president), and rookie Cup participant, David Montone. Alongside Fraser were third Darren McColm, second Kevin MacDonald and lead J.C. Poirier.

Accompanying Montone were third Scott Graham, second Jim Poulton and lead Andy Harrison.

MacDonald, Graham and Harrison also added their names to the rollcall of cup challenges, this one being No. 1,038 since its debut in 1874.
